For the upcoming session we are changing to July 19th at 1pm. Steven and Quentin will both be gone on the 12th, and seeing as how it just would not be the same without them we will push back one week. Location still the same. Give a look through some of the readings posted and if there are any comments please post.
This page is set up to be a communication and resource sharing site for the education forum in Mae Sot. The point is to have a venue for education wonks here on the border to get together bounce ideas around with each other, share info and discuss education and development theories and see how they actually do or don’t work when we have to implement them in our work.
We just had the first session so thanks to those who showed up and for those interested but couldn’t make it (possibly as a result of Mickey’s goodbye party), looking forward to seeing you next time. It was a great discussion and there was some interesting new things learned from being able to share across projects and organizations.
One point of focus that we will take forward for the next time and for future readings is looking closer at the bridge or the collapse that happens from theory to practice. The readings we are focused on finding for the next time are examples (case studies) of educational development projects that are pedagogically sound, progressive in theory and methodology and that have been implemented jointly with NGOs and local but were taken over and run completely by the local partners. (… that’s just a little bit specific, huh?)
Well, let’s see what we can cull together. If you have an article or doco please post under the Readings category. This is also where I will keep any other suggested readings.
Next session will be July 12 at the Youth Connect office. Please join if you are interested.
